Mr. and Mrs. Smith .. er... Spy

I have to admit I wasn't much of a fan of Mr. and Mrs. Smith. I didn't enjoy the movie and it resulted in the relationship of its stars Brad Pitt and Angela Jolie, from whose faces/dramas/children no trip to the grocery store is safe.

But I love Shana Galen, so when I heard she'd written a book pitched as a "Regency Mr. and Mrs. Smith" I knew I was in safe hands.

Here's the blurb:

No man can outsmart him...
Lord Adrian Smythe may appear a perfectly boring gentleman, but he leads a thrilling life as one of England's most preeminent spies, an identity so clandestine even his wife is unaware of it. But he isn't the only one with secrets...

But one woman almost certainly can...
Now that the Napoleonic wars have come to an end, daring secret agent Lady Sophia Smythe can hardly bear the thought of returning home to her tedious husband. Until she discovers in the dark of night that he's not who she thinks he is after all...

Shana Galen's brilliant Regency world features two noble spies who cross swords and meet their match in a fast-paced, witty love story full of excitement and heart.

Hard to resist and worth every minute you spend reading it. You may learn more and read an excerpt at Shana's website.

I have a signed copy of LORD AND LADY SPY to give to one lucky reader.  Can you think of any romances that were inspired by famous movies? If so did you enjoy the movie of the book more? If you can't think of one that's OK. You may still enter the contest. Either make a comment here (include your email address) or use my contest entry form. I’ll select the winner at random on November 11th, no earlier than 8 am EST.

Contest ends November 11, 2011 8 am EST.  Void where prohibited. Sorry, US only, no international entries. No purchase necessary. All my contest subject to these contest rules.

Sounds like a great read, Miranda ... will add to my TBR list. I agree with you about the movie "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" and the relationship that came from it!!
Other than Austen based films, THE NOTEBOOK based on Nicholas Sparks' book of the same name is one of my favorite movies. Even though I know how it ends, I still tear up something fierce ... proves true love never ends.

I always thought of Loretta Chase's Mr Impossible as a sort of retelling of The Mummy. The Heroine is the Brains, the Hero is the Brawn, they run around Egypt while being chased by their enemies.

I LOVED Mr and Mrs Smith and I am VERY interested in this book!!!

And then there is that book set in the Amazon jungle that reminds me of that movie with Sean Connery and ???, those cancer researchers? She's by the book, he's a maverick, they are searching for some mythical city or cure, I forget (well, I forgat several things, LOL but I DO remember it was a good book)

@lakaribane ... MEDICINE MAN ... I love that movie, great soundtrack, too, of course, you can't go wrong with anything starring Sean Connery. : )

Miranda, thought some more about your question: Maya Rodale's A GROOM OF ONE'S OWN reminds a bit of THE WEDDING PLANNER at the very beginning anyway. The hero even saves her from being hit in the street by a carriage (much better than a trash bin if you have to be run over). : )

Oh yes. My Favorite Bride by Christina Dodd which is based off THE SOUND OF MUSIC one of am all time favorite movies. I'm still infatuated with Captain von Trapp ;) and I liked the book a lot. I think the entire governess brides series is wonderful.

@Amy I haven't seen The Notebook but it's one of my daughter's favorites.

@lakaribane I adored Mr. Impossible. Never thought of The Mummy connection! The other movie you mention sounds familiar. Is it Romancing the Stone with Michael Douglas (not Sean Connery)?

Ooops, no. I see Amy has the right answer.

@Amy Maya Rodale's book is a good one though I don't know i The Wedding Planner was the inspiration.

@Samra. I thought of another Christina Dodd movie inspiration: In My Wildest Dreams was definitely a retelling of Sabrina. Love that book.

@Eli LOl. I love Shana's pink cover too.

I can't think of any romance movies that were made into books (except perhaps Fireproof) thanks to having a houseful of illness right now (gotta love the stomach *flu*)but I can think of a whole bunch of books that SHOULD be made into movies. I would love to see many of my favorite historical romance novels made into movies (and not to show any particular favoritism, but Stephanie Laurens' Cynster novels or Bastion Club novels would be AWESOME on film!).

This was my favorite new release of 2011. Usually when books are made in to movies it usually is a disappointment as the casting never matches what is in my mind.

When I watch movies that I have read the book for, I always have to pretend that they are similar (maybe), but are completely detached entities that I am not disappointed. I cannot think of any specific movies to books.

I like Shana Galen's books so I am thrilled about this giveaway. Thanks for the opportunity.

I can't think of a movie romance that inspired a book...but I can think of plenty the other way round. I love spy books. I've never watched Mr. & Mrs. Smith though because I don't care for Brad & Angelina.

Thanks for the chance!
